Winter Projects…

The Primrosean winter projects remain on schedule…It took the expert many hours (and countless kilos of dry ice pellets…) to remove the  waxoil and gunk of the past decades under the 20/25, finally revealing the naked truth. In the meantime, the Saloon body was stripped of seats and door cards as well. A few parcels from the UK arrived so that this is now the perfect time for some  work on the Siddeley…

Fortunately the cleaning of the underside did not reveal any unpleasant surprises – at least nothing unexpected on a 78-year-old car. The running boards cause some concern – shall we use the opportunity to replace them, taking the risk that the removal of the wings necessary therefor may unearth new issues ? After all it is not planned to do a full restoration of our 20/25…

The bench seats and door cards are now in the skilled hands of a leather restoration expert, being repaired and serviced during the coming weeks to protect their condition. Without interior, it is the perfect time to install the missing door retaining straps. And while we are at it, the wooden door cappings could also do with some TLC, so off with them to a carpenter. Oh, and of course the wiring loom could be renewed at this stage – there is no point in keeping potentially damaged wires from the 30s and 60s for the sake of originality if the car burns down at the end…

Piece by piece the jigsaw puzzle comes together, rising the  anticipated joy of spring motoring. In order not to cloud the anticipation, I managed to sedate the Economist in me, stopping it from adding up the incoming invoices. Oh, by the way, I just remember I still have to order a new set of tyres…

Thanks Ian! I do know this company (and their competitor in Beaulieu), but the weak Euro is not helpful at the moment. I’ll probably buy the tyres from a dealer in Germany or Holland but just saw that they take 4-6 weeks for delivery from the US…so have to move quickly to have the tyres in time for spring!
